The move forms part of the operator’s strategy of navigating the complex regulatory landscape of the US sports betting and online gaming industry.

The expertise that Hartmann (pictured right) and Trombetta (pictured left) bring to the table is expected to bolster FanDuel’s ability to maintain compliance, foster constructive relationships with policymakers, and position the company as a leader in regulatory best practices.

Hartmann brings extensive experience in government relations and policy development. He has spent over a decade working in both the public and private sectors, specialising in navigating legislative frameworks for highly regulated industries.

His background includes strategic advisory roles that helped companies align their operational goals with evolving state and federal laws. His track record of building trust with lawmakers and advocating for policies that support innovation makes him an invaluable asset to FanDuel, the firm said.

Likewise, Trombetta is well-versed in regulatory affairs, with a focus on gaming and licensing.

Prior to joining FanDuel, he served as the executive director of the Florida Gaming Control Commission. His leadership was instrumental in implementing policies that balanced consumer protection with industry growth.

Trombetta’s deep understanding of compliance requirements and his ability to navigate the intricacies of Florida’s gaming laws will play a key role in FanDuel’s efforts to expand into new jurisdictions.

FanDuel’s market position faces federal challenges

FanDuel’s announcement comes amid increasing scrutiny on the US sports betting industry. Alongside its primary competitor, DraftKings, FanDuel is facing a potential federal inquiry into alleged market manipulation.

“As we continue to evolve our government relations team, we are excited to bring in two experienced professionals who understand our business, are deeply respected by legislators and can help us continue to show the positive impact legal and regulated gaming can have for states,” said FanDuel’s head of state government relations, Cesar Fernandez.

Critics have raised concerns that the two companies, which dominate the US sports betting market, may have engaged in practices aimed at limiting competition and consolidating market share.

Both companies have denied any wrongdoing, emphasising their commitment to fair competition and adherence to regulatory standards.

However, the allegations have drawn attention from lawmakers and regulators who are examining whether such dominance could stifle innovation and harm consumer choice in the rapidly growing sports betting sector.

The addition of Hartmann and Trombetta reflects FanDuel’s recognition of the critical role that government relations and compliance play in its long-term strategy.

As more states consider legalising online gaming and sports betting, having a seasoned team to engage with policymakers will be essential. The new hires position FanDuel to advocate for regulatory frameworks that promote a level playing field for operators.
